Plehn's Bakery: Legendary Donuts and More in Louisville, KY

This bakery is wonderful in every possible way. But I'm only posting so that you go and buy a Coconut Kuchen. It is a coconut custard pie that is the 8th wonder of the world. This thing makes the grey days brighter, girls weak in the knees, and children experience their first love. The one problem? Bliss like this sells out almost every day by noon. So, what I need is for you to ramp up the requests for the Coconut Kuchen. Then they'll make more each day, and when I stroll in around 2 pm on a random Wednesday, they'll be ready for me. Do yourself a favor; buy two each time you go. Hide one way back in the fridge and tell the family about the other one. Now, you have the best midnight snack of all time. You're welcome.

I usually don’t write reviews, but Plehn’s Bakery truly deserves one! I ordered a cake for my sister’s gender reveal, and it was absolutely perfect. The cake was so fresh and delicious, with just the right balance of sweetness. The whip was light, creamy, and simply amazing – everyone loved it! Not only did it look beautiful, but it tasted even better. Thank you, Plehn’s, for making such a special occasion even sweeter!

I had a very last minute custom 2 tier cake. They were able to accommodate me less than a week away from my event for 60 people! The cake was exactly like my inspiration photos, and they went above and beyond on getting colors that matched. The cake was the best vanilla cake I’ve ever had, and was beautiful. I am new to the area and won’t be going anywhere else for cakes!

What a treat. It’s an old school bakery that is celebrating 100 years in business. The selection is great, from cakes to pies to donuts to other sweets. I went in with donuts in mind and ended up with a bear claw and a cream filled eclair. Both were excellent. I want to come back and try many other things. The service was fast and friendly. Go support this staple in the community.

Friendly service. We didn't know we should pull a number to get in the queue, but they helped us when we approached the counter. We got the Apple Fritter, raspberry thumbprint, chocolate chip cookies, and an orange blossom. Everything was pretty good, but the raspberry kolache was especially good.

Nothing but great things to say about our very first visit to this storied establishment in Old St. Matthews. Young woman behind the counter was very patient as we made our donut selections. Apple fritter was delicious as we're the cake old fashions. Busy place just before Christmas.

I ordered red velvet, chocolate and vanilla cupcakes for my daughter’s baby shower, and every single person raved about them, especially the red velvet. I had guests from lots of different cities and they all agreed that these were the most delicious cupcakes they had ever eaten. The designs for my bee and sunflower theme were adorable. Highly recommend!

I absolutely love giving credit where it is due! As a kid, we visited Plehns almost weekly. Now, my mother just had my baby shower cake made with them and it was gone before any of the other desserts that we had brought or home made for obvious reasons! Just a simple white sheet cake, but everyone knows how moist and delicious their cakes are! Not to mention, it was stunning. It was one of my favorite decorations of the entire shower. Thank you Plehns for all of the memories you’ve been apart of, we will always continue to support this small business! There’s a reason they have been around for so long
